An eternal change of status

Have you ever experienced a major change in your life? Perhaps you graduated from school, had a child, or got a promotion at work? It can be irritating to wake up the next morning and realize everything has changed.

We all experience an instant change when we become believers. God has the power to change us in ways we could never have done on our own. In the Bible we read that from being enemies of God we have become His children.

"But as many as received him, to those he gave the right to become children of God, to those who believe on his name, to those born not of blood, nor of the will of the flesh, nor of the will of man, but of God .” John 1:12-13 ESVBC

In 1 Peter 2:9-10 we find an enumeration of additional changes. Peter says we are a chosen generation. This means that God chose us explicitly, even when we were going our own way.

Peter goes on to say that we are a royal priesthood and a holy nation. We have been changed by the power of the Holy Spirit and are now part of God's royal family. Instead of being held captive by our past, we are now blameless and free through Him.

While we have to work hard to get a promotion or graduate from school, we don't have to work hard to be part of God's family. Everyone can be a part of it.

Our status before God is completely changed by faith and grace.

You can probably remember what your life was like before you experienced God's mercy. What other blessings have you experienced as a part of God's family?

Spend some time thanking God for His incredible gift. As you do this, think of a few ways you can show your gratitude to God this week.
