1 Samuel 30

So when David was sent back by the king of the Philistines, because their princes did not trust him, and he returned to Ziklag, but saw the city burned and all that was his and his people carried away, he pursued the enemies and struck they all, and now it is said: none was wanting, neither small nor large, nor sons, nor daughters, nor robbery, nor anything that the enemies had taken. David brought everything back.

That was a real miracle. The rescued wives, sons and daughters, the rescued belongings, it all looked so that everyone had to say: This happened with God's help. David's men and David himself were also aware that they had only achieved this victory because God was fighting at their side. When David recaptured Ziklag from the Amalekites, some of his people would not share the spoils with the 200 men who stayed behind at the Besor brook. David decreed that those who stayed with the baggage should share equally with those who went into battle.

On the one hand, David could not and did not want to take advantage of those who stayed behind. To him, they were just as much a part of his army as those who had fought with him. On the other hand, he had experienced once again that God had helped them to their victory.

For it is never the only ones who go into battle and fight. We like to look at the people who are in the front lines. The church leaders, the elders, the ministers, those leading the worship. The team and group leaders oversee the important projects. But we often forget those who do most of the work behind the scenes. Church as we know it would be unthinkable if there weren't people praying for it in the background. And often we even forget those who make sure that something is cooked at lunch together. In every community there are faithful souls who have made it their task to use their time and their finances so that projects can be realized at all.

But we can be sure that God sees everyone's efforts and that in the end everyone will be given their share. Yes, I'm even sure that in the end we will be amazed and experience that people who have always been overlooked by us will come to the highest honor before God.

Think about the last time you thanked the person who cleans your premises after each service. Or the person who always makes sure that your children can go to Sunday school during the sermon. The prayers, the coffee team, those who maintain contact with the missionaries you support. The technicians, the social, the hospitable, the shepherds, who often put their own interests aside in order to serve others with them

that they can give. Church as we know it only works when many people get involved, and we can be sure that God sees everything.

And even the smallest and most humble service that we can perform is valued beyond all measure by God.
