Promise

Call on me when you are in trouble, and I will rescue you, and you shall praise me.

(Psalm 50:15)

Everything was just fine and then life suddenly played one of its tricks on us. Maybe it's the job you thought was so safe that you lose overnight or the marriage/partnership comes to an abrupt end. You've just been walking through life upright and self-assured, and then that very life you thought was so safe teaches you a lesson. Sometimes things come as a surprise and unannounced, and sometimes events are just a consequence of...

But the shock we feel changes us and our usual life abruptly. Personally, I've always said over the past few years that I believe that when a door closes, God has prepared something much better for me. But does this view, expressed in good and safe times, endure when tragedy strikes? Even in times of crisis, is our faith as strong as we want others to believe when we are doing well?

In my experience, God is closest to us in times of crisis, or at least that's how we feel. Then, when despair takes hold of us and we are emotionally down, our apparent security no longer stands between us and God. In desperation, we feel his closeness strongly, unfiltered. In desperation, we cry out to God for His help. And God hears us. Rarely as we imagine and hope, but we can count on his help. And we can trust that he means well with us. Unfortunately, something often has to happen before we turn to him again, but I tell you God is good and faithful. When he has decided that he will accept you as a child then that decision stands, even if we choose to make our own decisions.

Cry out to God and He will hear you and save you and then thank Him for His help.
